Panoramic dental X-rays show a general view of the upper and lower jaws and sinuses. This photo is very important:
- assessing the condition of all teeth, jaws and roots,
- when planning the removal of mental and receding (underdeveloped) teeth,
- setting up a treatment plan,
- when planning larger prosthetic procedures,
- assessing periodontal health,
- when planning implantation,
- planning orthodontic treatment.
Important: A panoramic dental X-ray must have been taken at least one year ago.
A lateral X-ray of the head (cephalogram) is taken:
1) planning orthodontic treatment. This picture allows the orthodontist to make an orthodontic diagnosis, assess the position of the teeth and the bite, and plan the stages of orthodontic treatment (straightening);
2) for planning orthognathic surgery, when future surgical changes are foreseen, i.e. the new position of the jaws;
3) to assess facial bone growth. Performed during the patient’s growth to assess the direction and rate of facial bone growth.
The sinuses, their airiness, the nasal bones and more are evaluated.
