Paediatric and adolescent dentistry

Parents should be aware that not only permanent teeth but also milk teeth of children need to be treated. If left untreated, they can lead to persistent pain, more serious diseases such as pulpitis and periodontitis, sleep and behavioural problems.
Regular visits to the dentist will protect both your children’s milk and permanent teeth and help them develop the necessary oral hygiene skills.

Frequency of visits to the dentist
.

The frequency of visits to the dentist is determined by the dentist at the first visit.

How much time should I allow for my child’s visit?

For the treatment of deciduous teeth, a visit of up to 1 hour is recommended. A 30-minute visit is sufficient for a deciduous tooth extraction. A 15-minute visit should be allotted to the kindergarten for the dentist’s examination and certificate.

Your child’s first visit to the dentist. Your child’s first encounter with a dentist should take place after the first teeth have erupted, or around the age of 2 years. Usually up to 3 years. At the age of 20, a child has already developed the first 20 milk teeth, which he or she starts to take care of with the help of his or her parents. Although children’s dental treatment and care is not very different from that of adults, the most important task for parents is to find the right dental professional.

Frequency of visits to the dentist
. Just like parents, children should visit their dentist twice a year for a preventive check-up. If your child’s teeth are damaged or tend to decay more often, we recommend a visit every 2 to 3 months.

Care of children’s deciduous teeth. A child should be trained to brush his or her teeth from an early age. It is recommended that children up to the age of 7 or 8 years should have their teeth cleaned by their parents. Until a child learns to write, their hand movements are not coordinated enough to brush their teeth properly. A young child can brush his or her teeth with a toothbrush, but the parent should finish brushing.
You should also remember to floss after all the milk teeth have erupted and the gums have formed.

Untreated deciduous teeth can cause pain and infection, which can damage the beginnings of permanent teeth that have not yet erupted. Tooth decay and the resulting pain can interfere with a child’s eating and sleeping patterns, lead to behavioural changes and poor aesthetic appearance. Therefore, it is essential to treat milk teeth. Various coloured fillings have been developed specifically for the filling of milk teeth, which can be chosen by the child.
Premature loss of milk teeth can lead to malocclusion. This is a common cause of orthodontic problems. The deciduous tooth holds the permanent tooth in place, so if it is lost too early, the new tooth may come in crooked.
