Anaesthesiology

What is general anaesthesia (anaesthesia)?

It is the induction of consciousness by medication to provide comfort to the patient and to keep the patient calm throughout the procedure.

The patient may be awake but relaxed, not feeling fearful, or in a sleep from which they can be easily aroused. The patient has no or only a partial recollection of the procedure.

Dental procedures under general anaesthesia (anaesthesia)

There are people who not only have a fear of dental treatment, but also have problems, illnesses or a very long and complicated dental procedure ahead of them. These people prefer to have their dental procedures carried out under general anaesthesia, also known as anaesthesia.

The following anaesthetics are used in the clinic Types:

  • oral sedation when a tablet is swallowed;
  • intravenous sedation, which involves injecting medication into a vein using a thin catheter;
  • general (intubation) anaesthesia, also known as anaesthesia, where the patient falls asleep and wakes up after the procedure;

Which type of antaesthesia to use depends on the patient’s age, health condition, type of treatment, duration of the procedure and clinical situation.

Dental treatment under general anaesthesia can be an excellent solution for smooth procedures in the following cases:

  • Patients who prefer not to feel anything during a dental procedure, are afraid of needle sticks, dislike the different smells in the dental surgery and feel uncontrollable stress and anxiety before every dental visit;
  • when patients need to stay awake for long periods of time or sit still for hours during the procedure;
  • those with severe nausea, gag reflex, laryngeal spasm, low pain threshold or extremely sensitive teeth;
  • if you need to perform multiple procedures in one visit, or one procedure that takes a long time (without anaesthesia, procedures can be performed in several visits; with anaesthesia, in one visit);
  • tooth extraction, mental surgery, implants, bone grafting, children’s dental treatment – these are all procedures that can be performed under anaesthesia.

Before anaesthesia, it is necessary to wait 6 hours before the procedure. eat nothing before the procedure, and 2 hours before the procedure. not to drink anything before the procedure.

The patient must inform the doctor of any illnesses he/she has, and which medicines he/she is taking and when. It is important to indicate if there is a flare-up of the disease, if you have a cold or upper respiratory infection in the last 2 weeks. It is important for the anaesthetist to know if the patient has any type of allergy. If you are expecting a baby, be sure to inform your doctor before the procedure.

As the patient is very relaxed after such a procedure, a companion is needed to help the patient return safely.
